Hepatitis Spread in New Bern Among the Drug Users

An increase of Hepatitis B and C was registered in the city of New Bern, USA by the Craven County Health Department. According to the statistics high increase of Hepatitis B and C is caused by the opioid drug users, who use the drugs by intravenous injections.

Every quarter of the year the number of Hepatitis C transmission increases on ten new cases of transmission. A big number of people diagnosed with Hepatitis C came from the jails and prisons. "When I did the calculations for 2016, each quarter we actually saw about 16 new cases coming out of the jail diagnosed with hepatitis C," - added Diana Vetter Craft, researcher from the Craven County Health Department.

Drug addiction appears as a big problem, causing social conflicts and health diseases by the drug addicted and their families. It is not a secret that with a progression of drug addiction, drug user could do anything to get a new dosage of the drug he needs. Non-sterile needles are considered to be one of the main reasons of transmission of diseases such as Hepatitis B and C, HIV. Usage of non-sterile needles and sharing them is not something special among the drug users.
