WHO publishes latest draft of global HIV strategy

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has published the latest draft of the ‘Global health sector strategies on HIV, viral hepatitis and sexually transmitted infections 2022-2030’. The strategy will be considered at the 75th session of the World Health Assembly.

The document identifies the main goals and objectives to be implemented in each country to help stop the transmission of infections such as HIV and viral hepatitis. The strategy is based on internal health principles epidemiological conditions.

Special focus has been placed on groups of people who are at higher risk of infection, and emphasises the importance of change within the health sector, as well as the role of patient organisations in tackling health inequalities and transmission.

In October 2021, Russia approved their own plan to combat HIV. The plan included guidance for children, a roadmap expanding provision of combined ART and training more specialists. The plan, however, did not include patient organisations and civil society.
