People living with HIV have to face many difficulties it their lives - they have to accept their positive status, to tell it to their relatives and so on. HIV-positive people must be brave to be ready to resist stigma and other not very pleasant things, HIV-positive people may collide with.

Many people suffer from depression all over the World in spite of their HIV-status.

Depression and other mental diseases like that are quite dangerous for people with HIV and here are some reasons why. While feeling depressed and apathetic, HIV-positive cares less about their health, misses their drug intake. Irregular usage of medications makes a risk of not suppressing CD4-load. The level of aggression can increase, and that can provoke further HIV-transmission to the others. People, who had lost their friend/lover/relative because of AIDS suffer very severe post-traumatic stress. These reasons seem to play a significant role in the future victory against HIV epidemic, and these issues inspired scientists and HIV-activists to found GMHC Carl Jacobs Mental Health Clinic.
