On 27 February 2017, WHO published priority pathogens list for R&D of new antibiotics (http://www.who.int/mediacentre/news/releases/2017/bacteria‐antibiotics‐needed/en/). Among the 12 bacteria, tuberculosis is not mentioned. As WHO stated in the press release, "Tuberculosis – whose resistance to traditional treatment has been growing in recent years – was not included in the list because it is targeted by other, dedicated programmes".

TBPeople, – Eastern Europe and Central Asian Network of People with Experience of TB –, as well as many other members of the global TB community, are shocked and dismayed by this logic.

"We remind that same skewed logic was behind the fact that for years HIV‐related TB deaths were not recognised as TB deaths.", says TBpeople chairperson.

TBpeople as like as other civil society groups and activists such as Stop TB Partnership, Global Coalition of TB Activists (GCTA), TB Alliance, Treatment Action Group (TAG), International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease call for the World Health Organization (WHO) to include Mycobacteria Tuberculosis in the list of bacteria for which new antibiotics are urgently needed.
