New Guideline for PrEP Released in Kenya

New Guideline for PrEP Released in Kenya - poză 1

Authorities of Health care system in Kenya realised a new guideline for PrEP to reduce the HIV transmission among the population. Kenya is the second country in the south african region to have PrEP guidelines.

66% of kenyan people living with HIV were taking ARV medications, according to the statistics of the previous year. Now there are about 1.5 million people living with HIV in Kenya and the prevalence has declined from about 10% in 2000 to 5.9% in 2016.

About a half of HIV transmission cases happen to the young women from 15 to 24 years, so they belong to the group of high risk because of the lack of knowledge how to protect oneself from HIV transmission and so on. Female sex workers and men who have sex with men are also in the high risk group of becoming HIV positive.

So the program of PrEP realisation is aimed mostly on men who have sex with men, female sex workers and young women, who can possibly contact a  men with HIV and also become HIV positive.
