Russian vaccines will protect against “British” strain of Coronavirus

Russian vaccines will protect against “British” strain of Coronavirus - picture 1

Russian vaccines Sputnik V and ‘EpiVacCorona’ can provide protection against the “British” strain of the coronavirus reports ‘FV’ with reference to the press service of Rospotrebnadzor.

The testing, carried out by the Vector Research Centre, used a serum with antibodies to the SARS-CoV-2 virus obtained from people vaccinated with either Sputnik V or EpiVacCorona. The results showed that the serums were equally successful in neutralising the “British” strain of the coronavirus – as well as its predecessors.

Earlier this month nine research groups and the UK databases reported an increased risk of death from the “British” strain of the coronavirus:

  • London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) reported 71% increased risk of death
  • University College London (UCL) reported a 36% increased risk of death
  • University of Exeter: 71% increased risk of death
  • Public Health England (PHE) reported a 65% increased risk of death

The increase in fatality rates from this new strain of coronavirus is caused by the increased rates of transmission rather than the COVID-19 disease course being any more severe.
